We are talking about how you should pray and dialogue with Jesus as you go out into the world.

Luke 10:1-4 “Now after this the Lord appointed seventy others, and sent them in pairs ahead of Him to every city and place where He Himself was going to come. And He was saying to them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest. Go; behold, I send you out as lambs in the midst of wolves. Carry no money belt, no bag, no shoes; and greet no one on the way."

You have an appointment. Because you choose to follow Jesus, He will have assignments for you to accomplish. Jesus wants to assign you an area with towns and people. Jesus sent this group of 70 to every town and every place where Jesus was going to go to in the future. He assigned them an area with towns and people and gave them the responsibility to go and prepare the way for Him. He wants you to prepare the way for Jesus to go into the areas He assigns to you.

Where could you be assigned? First there is the property where you live. It can be the actual home you or your family own. It can be a temporary place while you are at university working on a degree. Second, there is the neighborhood and city that is all around where you are living. Third, it can be a temporary place while you travel for work or vacation. Fourth, It can be a place you go to during the day, like a store, a park, the beach, the mountains or a special place nearby. You can be assigned to pray while at church or at a performance or any gathering of people. In summary, you can be assigned wherever you live and wherever you go during your day.

How will you know you have an assignment? You should ask Jesus everywhere you go if He has something He wants you to do there. The assignment can be to just arrive somewhere full of the Holy Spirit without even knowing what Jesus is doing behind the scenes. Most of the time you will be asked to pray for the place and the people where you are without directly talking with them. Talking to someone can also be an assignment. If Jesus prompts you to say something to someone, He will also tell you what to say.

Jesus Himself is going to show up. When Jesus sets people free from evil, they become the harvest Jesus talks about. The people see you first, but the real goal is for them to see the evidence that Jesus is working in their lives in what happens to them. The Holy Spirit has prepared in advance the work for you to do so that the people will see Jesus when you engage them.

Can Jesus trust you to represent Him? Jesus only chooses a few. So many are distracted with the wrong motives. If your motive is to see people set free from evil, Jesus will trust you. As soon as this happens, a real spiritual battle begins. The devil will fight to keep you from obeying Jesus. Consider it endurance training as you go out each day. Even when you are distracted, somehow Jesus does something wonderful anyway. Eventually you will start to get bored with a normal day and long for the assignments to see Jesus set someone free from evil. It is very addicting and way more exciting than a movie. Every time someone is set free from evil, there will be another confirmation of why you are alive on this earth.

Pray Jesus sends out workers to your family and friends. You are not the answer to your family and friend’s struggle with evil. Jesus is the answer. They can see you are different when you obey Jesus, but they need more than just you. Jesus will send workers to your friends and family to prepare the way for Jesus to set them free. Pray that Jesus sends others to your family and friends.

You go out as lambs surrounded by wolves. Sheep follow the Shepherd. You should go out as followers not leaders. Jesus should be ahead of you leading the way. For that to happen you have to prayerfully ask Jesus where He wants you to go, and who He wants you to pray for. Sheep are vulnerable if they don’t follow their Shepherd. All around you there are predators, but they can’t harm you if Jesus is ahead of you. Jesus will defend you while you are on assignment following Him.

It’s not about raising money or things. Money and things are distractions. It is a mistake to think that If only you had a large amount of money, you could save so many more. Jesus already has access to all the money. Money doesn’t set people free from evil. Jesus is the One who can set people free from evil. He just wants you to obey Him and have a willing heart to see people set free from evil. He will provide money if it is needed in the process.

Don’t be talked out of it. If Jesus tells you to go somewhere, don’t let anyone talk you out of going. Jesus told the 70 not to even start the conversation with a greeting. There are so many arguments to convince you not to go out. The most common is the respect you give to others. You respect those you have put above you and are used to making decisions based on their opinions. There opinions can become the hurdles you struggle with as you try to obey Jesus. They might even command you to stop what you are doing. You should be just trying to obey Jesus with a pure motive.

Prayer coaching: “Jesus, I accept your assignment for me to pray for where I live, the neighborhood around me, and the places I go. I accept my assignment to represent You to the people You send me. Today, may I be someone You trust to go out with the right motive to see people set free from evil. Show me who to pray for and where you’d like me to go today. May the people see You when I pray for them or talk with them. Send out workers to my family and friends. Set my family and friends free from evil through those you send to them.”
