We are talking about husbands giving more honor to their wives.

1Corinthians 12:23-24 “and those members of the body which we deem less honorable, on these we bestow more abundant honor, and our less presentable members become much more presentable, whereas our more presentable members have no need of it. But God has so composed the body, giving more abundant honor to that member which lacked,”

1. The husband is to bestow more abundant honor. As the head of the marriage body, Jesus requires that the husband give himself up for his wife, but also give her more abundant honor. He is to have the goal of making her more presentable. What kind of presentable is it? Is it physical appearance? No. As the head of the marriage, the husband’s responsibility is to help her be more pleasing to Jesus. This is the greatest honor, to have Jesus say, “I am pleased with you.”

Prayer coaching: “Jesus, help me to bestow more abundant honor on my wife than I receive. Help me raise my wife up to be more pleasing to You and hear You say that You are pleased with her.”

1Corinthians 12:25 “so that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another.”

2. The husband is to give the same care to his wife as he receives. As the head of the marriage body, Jesus requires that the husband give himself up for his wife, and give her the same care as he receives. If there is equal care for one other, then there will be no division in the marriage. The husband is responsible to pursue no division in the marriage.

Prayer coaching: “Jesus, help me to care for my wife as much as she cares for me. May there be no room for division between us.”

1Corinthians 12:26 “And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.”

3. If the wife suffers, then the husband should suffer with the wife. If the wife is honored, the husband rejoices with her. As the head of the marriage body, Jesus requires that the husband give himself up for his wife. He is to suffer with her, and rejoice when she is honored.

Prayer coaching: “Jesus, help me suffer with my wife when she suffers, and rejoice with her when she is honored.”
