John 14:15-16  "If you love Me, you will keep My commandments. I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever;

If you choose to love Jesus, what happens next? Jesus said He will ask God the Father to send you a Helper.

How long will this Helper be with you? Forever. Forever is a long time! If the Helper can be with you forever then we can conclude that you will live forever also.

What happens after your physical body dies? Your spirit and spiritual body will still live on with the Helper forever.

John 14:17that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.”

Who is this Helper? The Helper is God the Holy Spirit. He is the Spirit of truth. He will speak truth to you. The Holy Spirit can put thoughts in your mind and you can hear those thoughts He puts in your mind. Prayer includes listening to the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit hears your thoughts as well.

Can the rest of the world who don’t love Jesus receive God the Holy Spirit? No.

Why do those who don’t love Jesus not personally know God the Holy Spirit? They can’t see Him or know Him until deciding first to love Jesus.

Why do those who love Jesus know God the Holy Spirit ? They know God the Holy Spirit because He lives inside them and has a relationship with them.

Prayer coaching: Pray in your mind and talk with the Holy Spirit. Ask the Holy Spirit to make His thoughts clear to you.

Prayer: “Holy Spirit, make Your thoughts clear to me. Reveal truths to me that will help me today. Answer me when I ask for the truth to difficult questions and show me verses in God’s word.”

Listen to your thoughts as you pray and evaluate them. Is that thought yours, or is it from another spirit, or is it from God the Holy Spirit? The Holy Spirit will only speak the truth. If the thought is not the truth then it is not from Him.

Prayer: “Holy Spirit, I’m wrestling with my thoughts. Is this thought true? Is it from You? Show me the truth.”

Thoughts that are truth and lies mixed together are not from the Holy Spirit either. One example is when a thought accurately and truthfully calls out a mistake you made, but includes the thought to kill yourself. The first thought is true about your mistake, but the second half is not true. The Holy Spirit will never tell you to kill yourself.

Prayer: “Holy Spirit, help me test every thought and see when there are truths and lies mixed together.”

What’s for next time: God the Father and God the Son want to live inside you too.
