We are talking about how you should submit to Jesus first with your workers and those under you.

Ephesians 5:21Submit to one another in the fear of Christ.”

What standard do you set for your workers? Does your standard submit to Jesus’ standard? As the supervisor of workers, you should put Jesus first. You should never ask your workers to disobey Jesus’ standard, even if they don’t love Jesus.

Story: my student worker became my boss. I had a student who was a student worker in the ministry office at the university. He was so full of energy and so funny and very talented. But, some of his antics were a little over the top. How long should I tolerate or ignore his questionable behavior. Eventually I did confront him. My intention was to confront his rude joking in hopes that it would help ease the already strained relationships between him and other workers. If you could see the future, you’d do things differently. In this case, because I set a standard on Jesus and the truth, when my student worker graduated and became my boss, it didn’t make things awkward for me. If I had been a bad boss or unfair it would have been awkward. I tried my best to be honest with him. I knew it would be awkward more for him. Did we disagree on some things? Yes. I did confront him again even though he was now my boss. Jesus is first, and His truth is first, whether someone is my worker or my boss.

Prayer coaching: “Jesus, help me to follow you first at all costs, and set a standard of truth for my workers.”
