We are talking about how to be great. The great ones serve.

Matthew 20:25-26a “But Jesus called them to Himself and said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them. It is not this way among you…”
The rulers of the world lord over the people. Don’t be like them. Jesus’ disciples didn’t lord over each other. They didn’t have a system of who was more important among them based on status. There were no divisions based on age, race, gender, education, family background, personality, physical strength, connections or intellect. Jesus put them all as brothers in Him.
Prayer coaching: “Jesus, help me to not rule over other people. Help me to not create divisions between one another.”

Matthew 20:26-27 "It is not this way among you, but whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant, and whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your slave;”
The “great” ones shall be servants. Jesus wants you to be great. This isn’t a prideful goal because to truly be great you have to be a servant. Jesus wants you to be a servant. He wants you to be great!
The “first” shall be slaves. Jesus wants you to be first! This isn’t a prideful goal because to be first you have to submit to Jesus like a slave submits to a master and then with His direction submit to one another. Jesus wants you to be first!
Prayer coaching: “Jesus, I want to be great and first in Your Kingdom. Help me to obey You as I serve others and submit to others.”
