verse 14

James 5:14   “Is anyone among you sick?  Then he must call for the elders of the church, and they are to pray over him anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord;”

The sick should decide if they want to be prayed over by the elders.  An elder should be someone who has loved, and followed Jesus long enough to be mature in spiritual matters.

The elders are to pray and anoint the sick with oil.  The oil is a symbol of the work of the Holy Spirit, but the oil by itself doesn’t change things.

The elders pray to God the Father in the name of Jesus, as a declaration that they love Jesus and follow Jesus’ directions. It’s Jesus directions that point the way for their prayers.
