verse 5

James 4:5 “Or do you think that the Scripture speaks to no purpose: ‘He jealously desires the Spirit which He has made to dwell in us?’ “

God loves you.  You say you love Him, and then go off agreeing with thoughts from the world.  A husband can secretly run off and have an affair.

You can’t secretly run off, because God lives inside you.  He goes where you go.  He knows every thought you think, and every thought you agree to make your own.

While you’re having your affair with the thoughts of this world, He is right there inside you.  You grieve the Holy Spirit when you do this.  God is jealous for the Holy Spirit who has to endure your evil choices, and endure as you fight against Him to get your own way.

It’s good that God is jealous.  He fights for you to be set free from your bad choices.
