The phrase “submit to one anther” connects with the phrase, “wives to your own husbands as to the Lord.”

Ephesians 5:22a. “Wives, be subject….”

It’s important to clarify the original text.

In the earliest copies of this text, the words to be subject, or to submit, are not used in verse 22. They were added later.

Verse 22 should read, “Wives to your own husbands as to the Lord.”

Paul was being intentional to connect verse 21 and 22. The phrase “submit to one anther” connects with the phrase, “wives to your own husbands as to the Lord.”
