Treat your wife as your equal, so that your wife respects you as her husband.

Ephesians 5:33b. “…and the wife must see to it that she respects her husband.”

The phrase “must see to it”, implies that respect is mandatory, but this phrase wasn't in the earliest copies, of this verse. It was added much later.

Without the added phrase, verse 33 says to treat your wife as your equal, so that your wife respects you as her husband.

As you love your wife as an equal to yourself, your wife will respect you as her husband. If she is not treated as an equal, you will lose her respect.

Even though you sacrifice for her and serve her, what earns her respect is when you treat her as an equal from your heart.
