Isaiah 58:4 "Behold, you fast for contention and strife and to strike with a wicked fist. You do not fast like you do today to make your voice heard on high.”
Fasting is a temporary surrender of something to focus on prayer with God, in order to see a desired result. You’re in a dialogue between you and Him.
Fast with the right motive, and humble yourself. Don’t fast to win a conflict, or to get back at someone. Don’t fast because of disagreements. Your prayers won’t be heard if fast your own way. Pray the way God tells you, and, He will hear you and take action.
