John 5:1-3a  After these things there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.  Now there is in Jerusalem by the sheep gate a pool, which is called in Hebrew Bethesda, having five porticoes. In these lay a multitude of those who were sick, blind, lame, and withered.

Three times a year all the men of Israel had to go to the temple in Jerusalem. Jesus went to Jerusalem for the feast in order to fulfill the law.

He went just north of the temple area to the pool of Bethesda where all the sick and afflicted were waiting for a miracle healing.
