John 5:19a Therefore Jesus answered and was saying to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself,“
Jesus started by declaring that He won’t do anything just for Himself.
We leave God out all the time. Jesus can’t leave God the Father out of any of His decisions or actions. This means that Jesus is never selfish. He doesn’t ever take action selfishly. Never.
You’re probably thinking there is a monk somewhere who has accomplished an unselfish life like Jesus. We’d have to cross all of them off the list before they ever turned 5 years old.
We aren’t used to seeing perfection. Only Jesus lived a sinless life, because He is the One true God.
